Maymyo (Pyin Oo Lwin) is small and very peaceful in the cool mountain air.
Slowly walk or cycle around the town to see it. Nothing much happens really. There is a market, souvenir shops and an ancient movie theatre.

  TIPS.   
The Golf Course is one of the best in Burma in a pleasant parkland setting. You can hire clubs, shoes, socks and balls, about $10 will set you up. Balls are $1 but you get 50 cents back if you return it.
Unusual: Saya U Kyi Zin (E.S.P.,P.R.I.) says he does para=psychological research, "do you want to know your luck?" and even advertises in Panorama Magazine
The Botanic Gardens are a popular place to visit.
Pine trees and Australian Eucalypts abound among the English style houses for a very different Burmese experience.
The Chinese Buddhist Temple is unusual and a reminder that you are getting closer to the Shan state and the Chinese border.

Coming & Going :
To/from Mandalay. by pick-up truck, rough slow, and crowded 3-4 hours.
Leave Maymyo from the main st. near the Golden Dream Hotel, maybe 3 or so go each day up to about midday. They leave when full.

Leave Mandalay from various places (ask Hotel). Fare is about 80 Kyat.
There is also a very slow train, which goes all the way to Lashio from Mandalay

To Lashio and points nearer: Permission needed for Lashio but towns nearer to Maymyo are O.K. Ask around.

Have spoken to some people who have had a great time going up the road toward Lashio and stopping at a town to explore the hills and caves, the locals are very helpful.
Maymyo is famous for strawberries. Local jam is available.
Good fresh bread at Bakeries makes a nice breakfast.
