Accomodation:
Tends to be a bit expensive because its so close to Bangkok.
Quite a lot of fairly recent luxury Resorts. It would be cheaper during the week and not on Thai holiday time.
The cheapest places are along or just off Naretdamri St. Guesthouses are from 200 to 500 Baht.
Resort Hotels are from around 1200 - 6500 Baht.
There are a lot of Guest Houses along the waterfront street, north of the Hilton Hotel, some are built over the water, which is nice, but the rooms are tiny. Resorts are spread over a wide area from south of Hua Hin up to Cha-Am.
Attractions:
Closeness to Bangkok. If you want a quick getaway and the insanity of Pattaya is not attractive then this is a good beach alternative for a quiet relaxing time.
Very pleasant countryside with lush hills.
GOLF. Popular for the good golf courses. Five or so around the area.
Money:
Usual Banks and ATM's. No problems.
What to do:
Chill out at the beach.
Restaurants:
Hua Hin is noted for seafood, try near the pier at the end of Chomsin St. and at the Night Market (get the price first). Tourist type restaurants along Naretdamri St eg. Lo Stivale and Le Chablis.
Entertainment:
Its fairly low key but there are a quite a few bars designed for foreigners. In the Sois near the Hilton Hotel. Some Hotels have a Disco/Nightclub.
Warnings:
None really, except to behave yourself. This is a very Thai area with the King's holiday shack in the town.

Coming & Going:
BUS:
From the Southern Bus Terminal in Thonburi,
Bangkok (across the Pin Klao Bridge from Banglamphoo). Frequent departures for the 3.5 hour trip.
About 130-190 Baht for Aircon coach. Bus from Phetburi is 30 baht.

BUS back to Bangkok goes every hour from 5am to late.
130Baht. Buses can be taken to all south Thailand destinations as well.

TRAIN:
The Bangkok to Hat Yai Train stops at Hua Hin. About 44 or 102 Baht for 3rd and 2nd class. 180Baht for aircon carriage.
Takes 4 hours. Leave every 90 minutes during the day from Hua Lamphong Station.
TRAIN does not go to Cha-Am.

AIR:
The airport is a bit north of Hua Hin. Bangkok Airways fly to Bangkok and Koh Samui.
Getting Around:
Saamlor from Train Station, the Bus Terminal and the Chatcahi market to the beach is around 20-30 baht.
Saamlor (Tri-Cycles with passenger seat), Tuk-Tuks and Pick-Up Taxis available.
Motorcycle rental for 100cc is 190-200 Baht per day. Find them on the waterfront street.
Cha-Am
Cha-Am is not overly set up for foreigners.
The long beach is covered with tables and recliner chairs under thousands of umbrellas. So the family set themselves up for the day and stay there.
Very congested on weekends in the centre area.
A lot quieter at the north and south ends.

The beach street has shade trees and all the 7-elevens, photo shops and Hotels/Guesthouses.
Prices range from 300-500Baht for a fan room, and 600 up for aircon.
Mostly basic but a few quality resorts in the town area.
