Just less than two hours from Bangkok, Pattaya is a full-on city.
Most famous for the thousands of bars with Thai girls offering services to tourists.
The beach is not great and the roads can be very busy.
But at least it does have a holiday feel and can be a good break from smelly Bangkok.

  TIPS.
Getting Around:
Hundreds of "Baht Buses" (pick-up truck taxis) cruise the main streets all day and night.
The idea is you just flag it down and get in the back without asking where it goes.
Press the button inside to stop where you want to get off.
Then pay the driver, usually B10, for a short trip.
Be careful! If the Baht Bus is empty and you ask the driver if he goes to "X", he will say yes and treat it as a private hire, then charge you a lot more when you get there.

Also the ususal thousands of Motorbike Taxis are everywhere.
Always negotiate the price first.

Car Taxis. There are now regular car taxis around.
They have meters but will not use them. They will try to charge you an exorbitant amount.
Avoid using them as much as possible.

Motorbike Rental. About B150-200 per day for a small motorbike.
Negotiate for a weekly rental price.
Always wear a helmet.
And be very careful in the crazy traffic.

Theprasit Rd. has been under repair for about 99 years.
What to do:
Windsurf, water ski, swim, sunbath, snorkel, sail.
Rent water scooters to explore Pattaya bay, and motorcycles and jeeps to explore neighbouring beaches such as the increasingly popular Hat Chom Thien (Jomtien Beach) just south of Pattaya, where accommodation is also available.
Play Tennis enthusiasts can enjoy themselves at leadings hotel's courts.
Trips to offshore islands (where bungalows allow overnight stays) by ferry, hydrofoil or hired boat.
Koh Lan is popular for a day trip. Ferries go from the Bali Hai Pier frequently.
Accomodation is also available on Koh Lan.

Pattaya is Thailand's most popular base for playing golf.
About 15 bars provide an all-in golf day.
These are listed in the local weekly paper Pattaya Mail.
You can pick and choose so you can play any day of the week with a choice of courses.
Usually it costs around B1200-2000 for the day, made up of competition entry fee B200-300, transport B200-300, Green Fee B700-1000, caddy fee B200-300.
You might have to join one of the two controlling bodies (B500).
Also , if you go to play independantly you find Green Fees are much higher,
good discounts can be had by getting a Pattaya Sports Club card (B500).
