  TIPS.
Visas:
Immigration Office is at Laem Ngop (only one in the region). 10 day extensions on 30 day Visa (500Baht I think) and one month extension on 2 month Visa available.
Coming & Going :
Bus. To Bangkok 4 times a day. Two companies do the trip. Baht 280
To Hat Lek for Cambodia. Most people go at 6am on mini-bus to try to make the 8am ferry from Koh Khong to Sihanoukville. Often this is not enough time if you get held up at the border crossing, often by many locals going in and out for the day.
From Bangkok: Eastern Bus Terminal (Ekkamai), Baht 280 approx, about 6 times a day. From Khao San Rd, mini-buses run straight to Laem Ngop pier for ferry to Koh Chang.

AIR: The new Airport is operating. Owned and operated by Bangkok Airways. Flights to/from Bangkok and Phuket.
Ah! Monopolies are a lovely thing...... All part of the Turn Koh Chang into Phuket Project endorsed by the government.

Getting Around :
Ferries to Koh Chang leave from Laem Ngop pier. Taxi-trucks go to the pier at least hourly from the main street near the market, Baht 20, 20 klm.
Shopping :
The Night Bazaar. In the centre of town, open day and night. Good and plentiful food. Some clothes and other shops. Main market is in a building, open 9-5, regular stuff not very interesting. One Department store for expensive clothes, cosmetics etc.
Money :
Two main banks with ATM machines. US$ available to buy if you are going to Cambodia.
Entertainment: Not a lot. One Disco in the main street at the Trat Hotel, a Thai music bar "Baan Kong Music Bar" and "Bright Pub", one or two Karaoke bars. See map for locations.
Health :
Reputedly a good Hospital and amazing number of Pharmacies. Maybe a good thing judging from the numerous foreigners carrying injuries from Koh Chang, mostly to the legs from motorcycle accidents.
MALARIA: does exist in a small way, mostly in the rainy season. Use repellant of course. There don't seem to a lot of mosquitos around in the cool season.
Police:
In Trat tel: 039-511035. Nearest Tourist Police are at Rayong.
  FACTS.
Communications:
Country code= 66 Area Code= 039 then the 6 digit phone no.
Geography:
TRAT - about 200,000 people but still feels like a small town. Hills to the north with Gem mining.
Climate:
Southeast Thailand has two seasons, a dry period from November to April and a wet seasom from may to October. Temperatures are coolest from November to March with daily maximums averaging 30 centigrade. In the wet season this can rise to the mid thirties.. It can rain heavily in the wet season but is not constant.

Many resorts on the outer islands close during the rains, but Koh Chang has many that stay open year round.
